about us

The Dacorum Bangladeshi Welfare Association (DBWA), based in Hemel Hempstead, was formed in 2005 with the primary aim of supporting the growing Bangladeshi community in the town.

We are a non-profit organisation and registered charity who have actively sought to bring together the community providing regular organised activities to cater for all genders and age groups. These activities include:

  • Darul Ilm – Islamic classes
  • Congregational prayer for Jummah, Teraweeh and Eid Salah
  • Annual fun days
  • Tuition classes primarily focussed on English and Maths

The success and maturity of the organisation means that focus of the organisation is no longer limited to solely the Bangladeshi community. The DBWA welcome people from all backgrounds and there are now a significant member of people attending classes and events that are of Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Arab and various African heritage.

Throughout the duration of the organisations existence, we have relied on hiring various community centres in Hemel Hempstead to host events. However, after many years of struggling through this, we completed the purchase of their very own premises which provides a permanent base and gives the platform to expand the range of activities on offer and cater for even more of the community. We have already transitioned all existing activities and expanded to include the following:

  • A fully equipped games room (including pool table, table tennis, darts and carrom board) which is being used by all age groups
  • Ladies and men’s classes
  • Formation of multiple Sports and Social Clubs (including the DBWA Cycling club, Muay Thai, BJJ and Badminton)
  • Partnership with the local health organisation to help with the COVID Vaccination drive
  • Assistance with property related issues
